New Transpart Canada - ID Requirements (Travel Within Canada). As of June 18, 2007, all guests aged 12 and over will Be required to present at the gate, during boarding, one piece of valid government issued photo ID showing their name, date of birth and gender. If a valid government issued photo ID is not available, then two pieces of valid government issued non-photo ID will be required, one of which must show their name, date of birth and gender. • Air Canada Jazz, the regional affiliate of Air Canada, offers direct flight from Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa (starting May, 2008), and Toronto on a year-round basis. BY CAR

Prince Edward Island is roughly 1600 km (1000 miles) from Toronto, 1000 km (625 miles) from Montreal, 1100 km (650 miles) from Boston and 1450 km (850 miles) from New York City.

Whichever mode of travel you chose, you will notice that Prince Edward Island's crescent shape is perfect for a grand circuit tour. Start in the east at Wood Islands and loop your way around East Point then North Cape in the west, departing by the Confederation Bridge. (See everything in between.) Or reverse the procedure and begin at the Confederation Bridge. In either case, keep in mind that the bridge and ferry tolls are paid only on departure or, as we like to say, only if you decide to leave! Have fun and happy touring!

The Confederation Bridge

A 13-kilometre marvel, the Confederation Bridge is a very quick, convenient and dramatic way to arrive or depart the Island. Connecting from New Brunswick, the Bridge brings you to the town of Borden-Carleton and the visitor centre/shopping complex at Gateway Village. The Bridge is open 24 hours a day and takes approximately 12 minutes to cross. Tolls are collected only when leaving the Island. Northumberland Ferries

Northumberland Ferries depart from Caribou, Nova Scotia and Wood Islands, Prince Edward Island, on a schedule of about every hour and a half, offering a pleasant respite. The 75-minute trip, spent enjoying a chat and a snack, lounging on the deck and soaking up the sunshine and sea air and even some traditional "music on deck," is often considered a vacation highlight. Wood Islands is the gateway community to scenic and lively eastern Prince Edward Island.

The fare for the ferry is paid only when leaving the Island. Up-to-the-minute schedule information is available by telephoning, toll free, 1-888-249-SAIL. The ferry does not operate from the end of December until early May.

US VISITOR INFORMATION:

Soon Americans returning home via land and sea from any international destination will need to show a passport or other secure travel document. As a citizen of the United States, you do not need a Temporary Resident Visa to visit Canada.

If you plan to visit Canada, you must:

• Have a valid travel document, such as a passport.
• Be in good health.
• Have enough money for your stay. The amount of money you'll need will vary with the circumstances of the visit and how long you'll stay. For more information, ask the Canadian visa office in your country or region.
• Convince an immigration office that you have ties, such as a job, home and family, which will take you back to your country of origin; and Convince an immigration office that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit.
• When you visit for fewer than six months, medical examinations are not typically required.
• While in Canada, you must respect Canadian laws. You may not be permitted to enter Canada if you have a criminal conviction.

Currency

You may want to carry some Canadian cash when you enter Canada but automated teller machines are readily available and usually offer the best exchange rates. Don't be surprised if your money feels heavier; loonies and toonies ($1 and $2 coins) are in wide circulation. In Prince Edward Island, both the Federal GST and provincial PST are applied to many purchases, but clothing and footwear are not charged the 10% PST.

Units of Measure

Keep in mind that distances are measured in kilometers and speed limits are posted in metric as well. The metric system is also used for most grocery products. Temperatures are measured in Celsius; a very simple comparison to remember is that 20 degrees Celsius is about 70 Farenheit, and that average daytime summer temperatures in PEI are 23 degrees Celsius.

Time Zone

PEI is in the Atlantic Time Zone, one hour ahead of Eastern Time Zone.
