Plantation Golf Resort & Spa
One of Florida's "undiscovered" resorts, Plantation Golf Resort & Spa, can be found along a secluded corner of the Gulf Coast. Nearly every square foot of the 232-acre resort contains some form of recreational activity - 27 holes of golf, two lighted tennis courts, heated outdoor pool, volleyball, shuffleboard, and croquet. The hotel restaurant offers a daily a la carte breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For lighter fare, guests can try the Library Bar, the 19th Hole Grill, or the poolside Bar & Grill. North of Tampa, on Florida's Nature Coast, you'll find the beautiful town of Crystal River and the Plantation Inn. The resort features a 6500-yard championship course by Mark Mahannah with tree-lined fairways and water hazards on 14 holes. World Woods Golf Club - Rolling Oaks ~ 14.71 miles (Not Driving Distance)
Although built right next door, the land occupied by Rolling Oaks provides a stark contrast to that at Pine Barrens. Here you'll find huge oak trees draped with Spanish moss within a landscape reminiscent of Augusta National (including Azaleas!). The course features beautiful rolling fairways and well-defined bunkers with bright white sand. Fazio's mindset must have been completely different when designing both courses, but the end results are nothing less than spectacular. Particularly enjoyable are the great par-three holes at Rolling Oaks.... more info.
World Woods Golf Club - Pine Barrens ~ 14.71 miles (Not Driving Distance)
Intimidating. Enjoyable. These two words don't often go hand in hand, but they accurately describe the Pine Barrens course at World Woods. Ranked #26 on Golfweek's list of "America's Best Modern Courses for 2006," this Tom Fazio design has been receiving accolades since it opened in 1991. It's perennially ranked among the nation's top courses by Golf Digest and has been called "Florida's Pine Valley." The course features large fairways framed by expansive waste bunkers and towering pines (hence the comparisons to Pine Valley).... more info.
