The Champion Course at PGA National Resort & Spa was built with tournament play in mind. Originally laid out by Tom Fazio and redesigned by Jack Nicklaus in 1990, the Champion has played host to some of golf's biggest events including the 1983 Ryder Cup, the 1987 PGA Championship and the PGA Seniors' Championship from 1982-2000. An outstanding layout that challenges golfers of all skill levels, The Haig is named for Walter Hagen, who always took time to stop and smell the roses on his way to winning 11 major championships including five PGA championships in the 1920s. The resort honors his memory by placing rose bushes at the course's 150-yard markers.
