Did you realize four of the past five major winners have been first-time major winners? The list includes Lucas Glover (2009 U.S. Open), Stewart Cink (2009 British Open), Y.E. Yang (2009 PGA), and now Graeme McDowell (2010 U.S. Open). The only multi-major winner in the past five majors was Phil Mickelson at this year's Masters. Maybe St. Andrews will produce a first timer as well.
Did you know the USGA changed its exemption criteria for next year's U.S. Open? In the past, they invited the top 15 finishers back. This year, it's been reduced to the top 10 and the following will be automatically invited to Congressional in 2011: Graeme McDowell, Gregory Havret, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar, Davis Love III, Brandt Snedeker, Martin Kaymer, Alex Cejka and Dustin Johnson.
Did you know the Open Championship (aka The British Open) will be held at St. Andrews for the 28th time this July? Since 1990, they've held the event on the Old Course every fifth year. There's been no word yet on whether or not it will be back again in 2015, but you can bet it will be.
