Did you know that the Old Course at St. Andrews will host the Open Championship (aka The British Open) for the 28th time this week? Prestwick Golf Club has hosted the event 24 times, but not since 1925. Muirfield is next on the list with 15. The Old Course tends to produce big name champions such as Tiger Woods, John Daly, Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Jack Nicklaus, Peter Thomson, Bobby Locke and, of course, Bobby Jones. Did you know, the lowest first round at St. Andrews was produced by Neil Coles in 1970? Coles went out and shot 65 the first day, but was never able to get it under par again and finished in 6th place. 1970 is the year Doug Sanders three-putted the 18th and eventually lost the next day by a shot to Jack Nicklaus in an 18-hole playoff.
