About Heron Bay Golf Club

Heron Bay Golf Club was built for and hosted the PGA TOUR'S Honda Classic. In 2011, Heron Bay was host to the famed Dixie Amateur. Vijay Singh, Stuart Appleby, Matt Kuchar, Dudley Hart, Mark Calcavecchia and Jasper Parnevik became Honda Classic champions at Heron Bay. PGA TOUR veteran and golf course architect Mark McCumber sculpted 18 championship holes through wetlands, canals and lakes bordering the Florida Everglades. With over 100 sand traps, placement off the tee is vital to a successful round. As one of Florida's first Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Courses, Heron Bay's 240 acres feature a wonderful array of wildlife in a spectacular natural setting. Heron Bay, built for the pros and available to you!

Wide Open course. Would be a very good course for those from the north that haven't played in several months to start out on if playing several courses. It could you a little more tender loving care, but good course overall.

Very nice course with new greens put in 5 months ago. My wife and I played with 2 guys from Boston and really enjoyed our round. Traps need work but would definitely play again.
    Jeff(Ontario Canada) 4/29/2016
Sorry to report that this old beauty has been badly abused. It was in deplorable condition. Awful hit and miss fairways, dead greens, sandless bunkers and an invisible staff that seemed to know but not care. Don't waste your vacation at this Cow Pasture until someone wakes up and returns it to its former spleandour

    Very nice course, well run.
    Anthony(Atlanta) 2/8/2016
Great course but it was soaking wet when we played it. There were a lot of weeds in the fairway but for the most part it was ok.

The layout of the course was what he had hoped for considering it previously hosted a major PGA event, however the condition of the course was lacking. It was not terrible, but as they were preparing for an upcoming Amateur event, the course was cart path only for the days we were there which was absurd and unexpected. There was major drainage issues on the course, so the vast majority of the traps were rather unplayable, and many were actually water hazards. As others have mentioned, there were a lot of fire ant hills and raccoon's roaming the course. The golf carts were in very poor condition overall, and seemingly in short supply as well. The GPS seemed to work fine, but since it was cart path only, this was only mildly helpful. Having stayed at the adjoining Marriott, I was glad to Stay and Play, and not have to drive, but overall, I would hesitate to recommend this course with so many other viable options close by.

    ULF BREDBERG(BOSTON - MA) 10/19/2015
Nothing wrong with the course, but less exciting and too little variability compared to e.g. Polo trace and Jacaranda.
    Tom(Myrtle Beach, SC) 7/9/2015
Nice lay out. Poor condition, would have been cheaper if we paid at pro shop then through package. Poor staff.
    Terry Dorcy(Michigan) 3/20/2015
Nice course. In good shape. Club house employees and rangers very helpful and courteous.
    Too much sand!!
Scott(Niagara on the Lake, ON) 3/5/2015
    We loved this course!
    Peter(Hawkesbury, ON) 2/27/2015
A pleasant outing. Play it a second time and you can really score well.
    Andrew Hawkins(Ashland, ) 2/23/2015
The course is not in great condition. This course is maybe worth $55. Not the $125 I paid. This course was purchased by club link, so its all about the money now.
    Dave(Drexel Hill, PA) 2/13/2015
Disappointed with overall conditions. Rocks and shells in bunkers, no GPS and very few yardage markers on course, fairways and greens both rough and inconsistent. Not worth the price.
    Joel(Dayton, OH) 2/10/2015
    Nice course.
    Dave(, ) 2/5/2015
This property and course shows signs of being in trouble... everything is just tired and the service is nonexistent. We would not go back to this course.
    Dylan(Berkel En Rodenrijs, Netherlands) 12/20/2014
The course was in immaculate condition, with superb greens.
    Dennis T(St. John'S - NL CANADA) 3/15/2014
My foursome has been traveling from Pittsburgh eachspring since 2001 and we always play here. Our experience goesback to the days when this was a TPC track when it was reallyimmaculate. While many would avoid this because of the number ofsand traps - i

Brilliant venue making a real effort to get back ontothe top tier after the experience of the Honda Classic a decadeearlier. Great staff make you feel welcome especially the barmanager and a great cart girl!
Great course but be prepared for sand play
    David(St. John'S - NL CANADA) 11/3/2012
Too much sand - sand everywhere and not much fairway to hit.

This course has alot of sand traps. Otherwise it isin good shape and a challange to play. I like courses with lesstraps.

The course and staff were both first rate. Good experience and I would return. Good recommendation.
    MARK MELAS(EAST AURORA - NY) 3/28/2011
Not a great track, but pretty good
    TOM BIONDO(BRADENTON - FL) 3/14/2011
There is way too many sand bunkers on this course for the average player. I would not play here again because of this.
Wow! The sand was every where!
Plenty of room to recover from errant shots on most holes. Very few trees, but abundant water canals and sand traps. In fact, there were bunkers everywhere! Most were easily escapable. The course was very well maintained, as were the wildlife areas and the canals. There was housing along the perimeter of the course, but it mostly was attractive expensive homes on the far side of a wide canal and not in play. It was a long drive from Ft Lauderdale, and Golfpac should have warned us that SH 869 was a toll road (only $1.00, but a surprise nonetheless).
    JOHN CARDENAS(POWELL - OH) 4/12/2007
Another favorite course!!!! The staf and club house/grill are excellent and very helpful. The course is always in fantastic shape. John
